This journal was first written for the benefit of the neurologist who
tested my husband for evidence of dementia. At each subsequent
appointment, I delivered to him my recordings of behavioral changes.
He expressed gratitude for the information. It seemed to enable him to
better serve our needs.
It also helped me to “vent” my despair and frustration. I decided to
share it with other caregivers in the hope that it might be of some help
and comfort. I know that each case is different, and that my husband’s
case had not degenerated to the degree many experience. His death was
not brought on by the Alzheimer’s disease, but by the treatment for his
prostrate cancer.
My greatest comfort now is in the fact that I was able, with help, to
care for him at home to the end.
